What is Teammate®?
Lexus Teammate® technology is based on the Toyota Mobility Teammate Concept. It’s a Level 2 system of vehicle autonomy.
As categorized by the rating system of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Level 2 programs offer partial driving automation, which means the vehicle itself has the ability to control the steering and speed. In many situations, a car with a Level 2 SAE autonomous system can pilot the car until the driver takes back control over the wheel.
What doesTeammate® do?
Teammate® consists of two primary functions to benefit drivers like you here in Mishawaka: Advanced Drive and Advanced Park.
Advanced Drive handles the steering, acceleration, and deceleration of the Lexus vehicle while it’s on compatible highways. As long as you’re still present as the driver to retake control of the wheel when necessary, Advanced Drive can automatically detect slow-moving traffic ahead, change lanes, merge, and pass.
Advanced Park can also take control of the steering and speed, but it’s designed to maneuver your Lexus into parking spaces — including tricky parallel parking in South Bend—without scraping the paint on your large luxury SUV.
How does Teammate® work?
This technology relies on an array of interconnected instruments to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings at all times. Sensors cover every angle of the car, providing a 360-degree picture of your vicinity. A dozen other cameras and radar functions provide enough data to function properly.
Teammate® is safe and reliable because it relies on multiple backup systems in case anything goes awry.
