Lexus: A Pillar of Luxury Since 1989

With incredible performance and premium quality, Lexus is unparalleled among modern luxury automakers today. Arriving at the most current pinnacle — and pushing to achieve great new heights — is the result of more than 30 years of evolution. Since debuting in America in 1989, Lexus has never wavered in its goal to raise the bar ever closer to perfection.

Exclusive beginnings

In 1989, Lexus crossed the Pacific and debuted in the United States with a pair of bold sedans: the LS 400 and ES 250. These popular luxury vehicles became all the more coveted by drivers thanks to the brand’s exacting standards for dealers. When Lexus first launched in America, only 121 dealerships out of thousands of candidates were selected to lead a franchise. Though the network of Lexus dealerships has grown exponentially since then, the commitment to providing a sense of exclusivity and personalization remains.

Hot right out of the gate

Not long after arriving, Lexus got to work building one of the most exciting lineups in the luxury auto world. The ES 300, SC 300, and SC 300 sport coupe hit the market with hurricane force, taking the nation by storm. By 1991, just two years from its debut, Lexus was the No. 1 luxury import brand in the United States.

Over the following years, Lexus continued to build on its solid foundation. In 1993, the industry-leading Lexus Certified Pre-Owned program offered even more drivers the chance to get in on the ground floor of a burgeoning legacy. By 2000, the year in which Lexus became the first import luxury brand to sell more than 20,000 vehicles in a single month and the bestselling luxury brand overall, the lineup had grown to include icons like the LX 450, IS 300, and RX 300 — the latter effectively launching the red-hot luxury crossover we know today.

America’s adopted luxury brand

As the years continued, Lexus smashed through barriers with record sales, innovative new vehicles, and groundbreaking technology. In 2003, a new chapter began when Lexus announced that the RX 330 would be built in North America — the first Lexus ever built outside of Japan. By 2015, Lexus kicked off production of the American-made Lexus ES 350 in Kentucky, creating jobs and revenue in the United States. While production of Lexus vehicles continues in America, those exacting standards that made those first two sedans so unique remain intact.

Today, Lexus stands as the standard of excellence in automotive luxury. From the sporty Lexus LC to the family-friendly NX 300 and RX 350, you’ll find vehicles of superior quality at Jordan Lexus of Mishawaka in Mishawaka, Indiana.
